We have all heard the saying ‘the Kitchen is the heart of the home’ but how many of us can honestly admit that we have taken the time to really appreciate why this is? The kitchen is one, absolute, bare necessity of every home. From the time we wake up in the morning until the time we go to bed each night, it seems that one’s day is not complete without a visit to the kitchen, or several. Our kitchens are certainly viewed as the most central and busiest area of our homes. While running back over the course of my day, I came to the realisation that the amount of time actually spent in the kitchen and the everyday tasks that are undertaken is quiet surprising.
The main purpose of one’s Kitchen is to store, prepare and cook food but many would agree that its purpose goes far beyond that. Today the population is definitely more health conscious and as a result, we are also more passionate about the beautiful, nutritious foods that fuel our bodies and minds, to keep up with our ever-increasing, busier lifestyles. Because so much time is spent in the kitchen between meal preparation, cooking and cleaning, it is not uncommon for the kitchen to also be the main social and recreational area of the home.
The kitchen is unquestionably, the area of the home where our souls are also fuelled, where family and friends congregate not only to cook but to entertain, relax and socialise. Our kitchens have become the focal point of our homes, and our homes are often designed and built around our kitchens. Our kitchens have become a reflection on how we like to live our lives, they definitely are the heart of the home.
